6 Instagram-Friendly Cafes in Ekamai & Thonglor with Great Tasting Coffee

September 29 is National Coffee Day!

To celebrate my love for coffee and passion for cafe hopping, I’m sharing my favourite Instagram-friendly cafes between the Ekkamai and Thonglor neighborhoods.

Patom
Located in one of the small lanes that connect Sukhumvit Soi 49 and Thonglor, Patom is a literal oasis in a concrete jungle. A greenhouse-like structure rises from beautifully landscaped trees and shrubs — it’s hard not to stop and stare (and take lots of photos) while entering the cafe. Running on a self-service concept and using little to no plastic, Patom prides itself in being a sustainable establishment serving up organic coffee, dishes and desserts for which the ingredients are all sourced locally. Order and pay for coffee and snacks at the counter and find a seat by the window with unbelievable views and a toasty latte or cappuccino to keep you company.

Fill In The Blank Cafe & Shop

A hidden gem in Sukhumvit Soi 61, Fill In The Blank Cafe & Shop is a small coffee shop inside a decor store. The interiors are warm bathed in natural sunlight shining through the large glass windows as well as with lots of wooden textures accented by little plants and flowers all over. There’s an extensive menu with food, drink and dessert options — the latte and lemon cheesecake are delicious.

A new entry to the Thonglor coffee scene, DRIP Tea and Coffee Cafe is located in Thonglor Soi 13 (the lane that connects Thonglor to Sukhumvit Soi 49) and easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. The cafe has an interesting vibe that can only be described as “gothic meets apothecary”; black walls contrasted with a dramatic black and white tiled floor, the tableware is metallic, copper and glass and the whole cafe is filled with large glass jars with beautiful dried flowers in an array of deep, rich tones. The tables have dried flowers behind the glass tops, which provide a lovely background for photos too. The menu is extensive but focuses mainly on teas and coffees.

Roast
Now a renowned and respected veteran of the Bangkok brunch and coffee scene, Roast occupies the whole top floor of The Commons in Thonglor Soi 17 with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The inside decor is simplistic, natural and airy, very reminiscent of a New York cafe while the outdoor boasts lots of greenery and natural textures and diffused light for that perfect Instagram photo. The menu offers great brunch as well as delicious all day dining options. Order the iced-espresso latte, you won’t regret it.

Ekkamai Machhiato – Home Brewer
It’s easy to drive past this unassuming cafe located in Ekkamai Soi 12. With no grand entrance or signage, the main tell of Ekkamai Machhiato – Home Brewer is its graphic white exteriors shaded over by tall trees and plants. The cafe is simple in nature with tones of white and warm wood and the menu is even simpler: coffee of all kinds. Order the iced latte and pose for a photo by the large wooden door at the entrance.

Toby’s on Sukhumvit 38
A treat for the eyes (and Instagram), Toby’s vibe is quintessentially “small town chic” with its rustic barn-esque exteriors, fairy lights hanging low and hints of greenery all around. Located on a picturesque stretch of Sukhumvit Soi 38, Toby’s attracts a lot of Instagrammers and photographers. The food, drinks, coffee and dessert are all excellent — the French brioche toast and latte are highly recommended.
