I Tested Some Fenty Beauty Products. Here Are The Hits and Misses.

Here are my thoughts on Fenty Beauty, the beauty brand launched by Rihanna, and some of the products from the brand.

There were some hits and some misses. Read on for the low down.

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo

Unit Price: 1,450 Baht
Shade: Mean Money / Hustla Baby

Travel Set Price: 820 Baht
Shade: Hustla Baby

The Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo with the shades Mean Money and Hustla Baby is one of my holy grail highlighters and one of the few beauty products I have hit pan on and had to repurchase (that’s a huge achievement for a makeup junkie!). I particularly love the shade Hustla Baby because it is the perfect mix of champagne and peach to complement medium to dark skin tones. Sometimes highlighters can look icy on my skin tone, but Hustla Baby gives me an amazing glow when my face hits the light. I like the duo concept because it gives me the choice on how amped up or down I want my highlight; the shade Mean Money is subtle while Hustla Baby is brighter and pops more.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick

Price: 720 Baht
Shade: S1ngle

Aside from a catchy name, the Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick is an okay matte lipstick with a velvet-like finish. I really like the hot pink shade Candy Venom. It’s a very wearable hot pink, but what I don’t like about the lipstick is the formula; it’s quite thick and a bit drying. The other lipsticks shades are quite vibrant and intense as shown in the picture above, so I don’t know how much use you can get out of them. If that’s something you’re looking for then you might enjoy this lipstick. But overall, I think I have discovered better lipsticks in terms of shade and formula and this one can be given a miss.

Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer

Unit Price: 1,200 Baht
Travel Set Price: 960 Baht
Shade: Caramel Cutie

I was pretty excited to try the Fenty Beauty bronzer  because the collection launched with eight different shades. I don’t think any other beauty brand has such a wide range of bronzers. Usually it’s one or two shades for all skin tones, which is just not realistic. For my medium skin tone finding a bronzer that is pigmented and warm enough to show up, but not look muddy is hard. After swatching all the shades in the store, I found the shade I like the shade Caramel Cutie. It’s very similar to Hoola Bronzer by Benefit Cosmetics (holy grail, everyday bronzer), but just slightly warmer for a more sun-kissed look. The formula is super smooth, easy to blend and buildable. I can’t recommend it enough.

Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick

Unit Price: 990 Baht
Travel Set Price: 960 Baht
Shade: Sinamon

fenty beauty

I didn’t really know what to use the Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick for when I got it. I realised it’s pretty much a very shimmery highlight in cream stick formula. The shade Sinamon is definitely too deep to use as a highlight or blush topper for my medium skin tone. And I’m just not a fan of the way the thick shimmery formula looks on my face — it looks like glittery crayon streaks across my cheeks and it’s not very easy to blend. That being said, I then tried it on my eyes as a cream eye shadow and it works amazingly! The deep peachy gold shade actually looks very natural on my lids and adds a subtle glow. It’s a great makeup hack to make it look like I put in a lot of effort with my makeup.

Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer

Unit Price: 830 Baht
Travel Set Price: 820 Baht
Shade: Fenty Glow

When Fenty Beauty launched in 2017, the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in shade Fenty Glow was one of the first products to launch and it was hyped by many as an amazing lip gloss that suited all skin tones. Well, I don’t agree at all. I have a medium skin tone and I think the gloss looks odd on me for a number of reasons. First, the colour is brown and sheer, but filled with sparkle, so it doesn’t do much to hide the pigmentation on my lips and I feel the sparkle without any pigment looks cheap. Second, the formula is super goopy and sticky and like the Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick sits on top of my lips instead of absorbing nicely. I tried using the lip gloss on its own, with a nude lipstick underneath, and with just lipliner but none of the methods seem to work. So, I’d give this product a skip, there are much better lip glosses available in terms of colour, formula and price.

Invisimatte Blotting Powder – Universal

Price: 1,170 Baht

invisimatte powder

Another product that was part of Fenty Beauty’s initial launch was the Invisimatte Blotting Powder – Universal, which is supposed to be a pressed translucent powder to refresh makeup and blot oily spots throughout the day. It also comes with a traditional poof in the compact. Honestly, the product just fell flat for me. The formula of the powder is super dry and applies in a patchy way with the poof. I tried applying it with a brush to, but it was no better. I’d definitely give this product a miss

Instant Retouch Primer Filt’r Pro

32ml Bottle Price: 1,280 Baht
15ml Bottle Price: 630 Baht

primer fenty

I tried the smaller 15ml bottle of the Instant Retouch Primer Filt’r Pro and I really like it. The primer has a really soft velvet-like finish on the skin. I apply it mainly on my T-zone and on the sides on my nose where my pores show a lot more and I think the Instant Retouch Primer Filt’r Pro does a great job of blurring them out, creating a really smooth base to apply makeup on. I also prefer the smaller size because it makes it easier to travel with too. If you’re looking to try a new primer, I would definitely recommend this one.

Match Stix Matte Skinstick

Price: 990 Baht
Shade: Mocha

mocha contour stick

The Match Stix Matte Skinstick has mixed reviews online. Some people love using it to contour / bronze the skin while others find it is hard to blend and some shades can get a bit muddy. Sadly,I’m part of the group that doesn’t love the Match Stix Matte Skinstick. I got the shade Mocha and it translates slightly muddy on my skin when I do blend it out. So, that’s maybe due to not getting the right shade. But that being said, I just don’t like the formula of the stick because it’s quite thick and creamy and sits on top of the skin. I don’t think it works for hot and humid weather. Instead, just use a powder bronzer / contour and call it a day.

I hope you found my review of Fenty Beauty products useful. Let me know if you have tried any of the products mentioned here or other products not mentioned and share your comments below.
