Products and Services That Make My Life As A Mom in Bangkok Easier and More Efficient

Life after becoming a mom centres on following strict routines, being quick to get things done and doing things on-the-go. It’s a skill I had to quickly learn and I discovered some must-have products that help my mom life function smoothly and operate efficiently every single day. Some of things on this list really surprised me but there’s a reason I reach for them time and time again.

Diaper Backpack

I was planning a lengthy vacation with my son and needed a durable diaper backpack in a neutral shade such as black or grey and with extra large capacity. I was browsing Lazada Thailand and came across this generic unbranded diaper backpack and decided to take a chance and try it out before my travels. The price point didn’t break the bank and if it turned out to be a dud I wouldn’t be too heartbroken. I ordered it almost 4 months ago and I don’t have a single bad thing to say about it — it truly is amazing! Like the photos below show it has so many pockets and sections which means organising my kid’s stuff is simplified. I can use one hand to open the zip and retrieve whatever I need very easily. I especially love that there is a spacious outside pocket on the top flap where I can quickly throw in my keys, mini wallet, lip gloss and phone and that way all mine and my son’s stuff is in one place we’re ready to go in a few minutes. The bag is made out of a waterproof material and wipes clean easily. In a nutshell, it’s a great bag that can hold everything I need for my son for a full day out and my husband or I can wear it easily because the design is simple and neutral.

Baby Monitor

This generic unbranded baby monitor from Lazada has all the same features and functions as any high-end branded baby monitor — clear camera, sound sensor, night camera, volume control, microphone, monitor off/sound on only, light alerts — and offers amazing value for money. I have placed the camera right above my son’s crib and the baby monitor’s signal works up to distances of 15 metres, which gives me the freedom to be elsewhere in my apartment and know that I can still keep an eye on my son while he’s asleep. It’s also a great monitor to travel with because it’s so compact in design — I take it everywhere whenever I travel with my son. The price point is very reasonable as compared to other baby monitors and it works just as well. Note: Since this is a generic, non-branded product (from China I assume) be sure to check that the plugs are compatible for Bangkok. You can do this by swiping the product photos to check the one you’re ordering comes with the right plugs.

Big Red Rooster Baby White Noise Machine

When I was researching on how to sleep train my son I came across the Big Red Rooster White Baby Noise Machine on Amazon as a recommended tool to help with better sleep. I decided to try it out and now a year later my son is sleeping in his own room with it on all night. It gives him (and me!) a lot of comfort knowing that there’s a familiar gentle lullaby playing all night so he doesn’t get scared of being alone. It’s great value for money and includes 6 different sound and music options, a timer, volume control and it can also be battery operated. It’s not too bulky or heavy so it’s very easy to travel with and I take it everywhere I go because it helps recreate a familiar sleep environment for my son ensuring he sleeps well (which means I sleep well!). The best part is my son recognises the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star melody as part of his bedtime routine and loves to push the button every night to turn it on since we made a little game out of it.

Tommee Tippee Easy-Roll Up Bib

tommee 2

I swear by the Tommee Tippee Easi-Roll Up Bib. I started using with my son once he was 6 months old and started on solids. The bibs are amazing to use at home and while traveling too because they can be folded to become compact, wipe/wash clean easily and catch all kinds of crumbs, messes and sudden vomit/spit up really well. I know the last point sounds weird and gross but it has saved me from huge cleanups more times than I can imagine. I cannot recommend them enough for use at home and traveling. Available at Emporium and other department stores.

Skip Hop Snack Cup

This little snack cup goes wherever my son goes. It holds dry snacks such as puffs and cereals very well and the silicone flaps encourages my son to eat independently without creating a huge mess, especially on the go. If my son is out with me, I will literally toss it into any bag I’m using that day and I give it to him to hold and eat from if he’s in his car seat or the stroller and getting fussy. He has dropped it plenty of times but the Skip Hop Snack Cup is pretty sturdy and going strong for us. I also love the bright colours and overall design of the product. Available at Emporium.

The Little Red Box of Bright and Early Board Books

With a growing toddler who needs constant engagement and entertainment, I find The Little Red Box of Bright and Early Board Books a super easy, no-brainer compact option to toss into my son’s diaper bag. The box has 4 small board books and each has a different story and theme so it provides good educational entertainment whenever we’re out for long periods or traveling and it’s close to bedtime. Available at Asia Books stores.

LeapFrog Chat and Count Smart Phone

Distraction is the key to any mom’s sanity. The LeapFrog Chat and Count Smart Phone is my go-to whenever we’re out, traveling or I need my son to concentrate or sit still for longer stretches of time. I strategically keep the toy phone in his diaper bag so he doesn’t see or play with it every day and that way there’s a novelty whenever I do give it to him and he stays occupied for a little while. Available at several department stores in Bangkok.

Cardholder

My current Kate Spade cardholder (similar ones linked here) has replaced a full-sized wallet for every day use. It has enough slots for my all my daily essentials such as credit cards, driving license, hospital cars and insurance cards, and discount cards and some cash folded up. And it has made my life so much more efficient because with a kid I am switching between large bags, laptop bags, small clutches and a diaper bag every few days so all I have to do is move my cardholder and I’m good to go. I don’t have to organise a wallet or switch between different ones and it’s saves me so much time and stress. Available at all department stores and malls.

Small Pouch with Travel-Sized Makeup

I keep a small makeup pouch which includes small and travel-sized makeup which easily slots into my handbag or kids diaper bag so I can get ready or touch up my makeup wherever I am. Most days I am running late and don’t have time to do my full face of makeup so I keep my essentials in a pouch like this and do it on-the-go. These are the small / travel-size products in my mini makeup pouch:

  • Concealer: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer works great as a foundation too.
  • Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir
  • Loose Setting Powder: Kat Von D Lock-it Setting Powder
  • Lipstick: MAC Satin Lipstick
  • Lipgloss: Fenty Glow Gloss Bomb from Fenty Beauty Bomb Mini Lip and Face Set
  • Highlighter: Hu$tla Baby from Fenty Beauty Bomb Mini Lip and Face Set
  • Kohl / Gel Eyeliner (optional): Marc Jacobs Gel Liners
  • Eyebrow Pencil (doubles up as eyeliner!): Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil
  • Flat Tipped Brush
  • Powder Brush

Apple Music
Screen Shot 2019-04-18 at 9.08.29 pmI subscribe to Apple Music and it’s not even for me, it’s for my growing and demanding son (he keeps asking for “bus song”, “star song” or “monkey bed song”. Since my phone is always near me, having access to nursery rhymes and Disney songs at my fingertips makes life so much easier. For long drives, meal times or fussy moments at home or on-the-go, I’ll play on my son’s favourite songs and it really helps keep him engaged and in a good mood.

HappyFresh App (Grocery Delivery)

happyfreshI save so much time with the HappyFresh app, which is a grocery delivery app. I can easily select my groceries and other household items including diapers and wipes etc through the app on my phone and they are delivered right to my door during a pre-selected time. I’ve had a great experience with HappyFresh but there are other options out there. It’s really been a life and time saver for me!
