Easy Wearable Orange and Pink Neon Makeup Look

I know many people have a complicated relationship with bright colours — be it makeup or clothing. I get it, believe me, I do. Colours can seem intimidating. Mention ‘neon’ colours and I see you’re getting ready to run away. But hear me out: wearing colour isn’t scary, if you know what you’re doing. There are some simple rules when it comes to wearing colour — especially bright colours — and doing it in a way that will make you feel confident.

The neon makeup look I created is inspired by a look done by one of my all-time favourite makeup artists — Hung Vanngo — on model Mayowa Nicholas. I love it. It’s loud. It’s a head turner. It’s bursting with colour and energy. But it’s also very wearable, elegant and easy to do. For me that’s a winning combination when it comes to an effective makeup look.

Here are the products I used:

  • Huda Beauty Neon Orange Obsessions Palette
  • Catrice Cosmetics Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil in Ultra Black
  • Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Berry Pop
  • Hoola Matte Bronzer by Benefit Cosmetics
  • Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Candy Venom

Step 1: Before applying eyeshadow make sure to prime your eyes with concealer/foundation (so that no other natural pigmentation / dark eye circles show) and set it with powder, so that you have an even-toned base to work on.

Step 2: Use a medium-sized flat eyeshadow brush to pat the neon eyeshadow onto the eyelid — this way the eyeshadow colour really packs on and looks bright. Don’t blend or swipe the brush because this will cause lots of fallout. You want to create a cat eye shape on the lid and crease with an upwards wing in the outer corner of the eye. To see how far up into the crease to take the orange eyeshadow use this trick: look straight into the mirror and if you can’t see any colour because your eye skin folds are hiding it, then you can take it a little higher until it is showing enough.

>> Optional step: Add a deeper neon pink or orange in the outer third of the eye to add a little depth

Step 3: Use a black kohl pencil to line your upper eyelid and lower lash line and then use an angled brush to connect both lines in the outer corner to create a long wing. Add lots of mascara.

Step 4: Add a little bronzer to the back of the cheekbones to create a little dimension on the cheeks.

Step 5: Apply a bright pink blush with a fluffy brush and blend it back into the bronzer — feel free to apply as little or as much as you want 🙂

Step 6: Apply a bright pink / neon pink lipstick — add a clear or pink gloss on top if you want.
