Skincare Review: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask, Gel-Cream Moisturizer and 3D Sleeping Mask

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost product line is formulated with hyaluronic acid as the main ingredient, which increases the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Other benefits of hyaluronic acid include making the skin look and feel plump and supple.

I’ve been using some of the products from the Neutrogena Hydro Boost product line for a while now and I have to admit, I’m impressed. The products have worked well for me when my skin is oily/acne-prone skin as well as when it’s feeling dehydrated (especially during pregnancy).

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask

After spending some time researching and experimenting with Korean skincare products and techniques, I found using sheet masks in my nighttime skincare routine once or twice a week really made a difference. I do my double cleanse at night and then apply a sheet mask for 15-20 minutes before following with serum and moisturiser. The key ingredient in the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask is hyaluronic acid, which is known for its ability to retain moisture. This sheet mask does a great job of adding extra hydration to the skin and feels extremely cooling and soothing. I think it does a really nice job of giving my skin that extra boost of moisture and nourishment on the days it’s feeling dehydrated. Personally, I like to use a face roller to massage my face with this sheet mask on to help the serum further absorb into the skin.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream
with Hyaluronic Acid for Extra Dry Skin

There are two moisturiser formulas available in the Hydro Boost line: water gel and gel-cream. Both are oil-free and non-comedogenic, which is ideal for oily or acne-prone skin, and they are also formulated with hyaluronic acid for dry / extra dry skin. The main differences between the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel and the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream formulas are that the gel-cream formula is dye-free, fragrance-free and designed for extra dry and sensitive skin. Fragrance in skincare products can sometimes irritate my skin and cause breakouts so that’s the main reason I prefer for the gel-cream formula. It is also incredibly hydrating and nourishing for the skin — I’m currently pregnant and my skin is feeling extremely dehydrated and I find this formula works really well as my daytime and nighttime moisturiser. Despite being so rich and hydrating, it absorbs nicely into the skin within a few minutes and wears very well under makeup too, leaving no greasy residue or feeling on the skin.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask

I bought the Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask on impulse because my skin is feeling extra dehydrated while pregnant and I thought maybe adding another layer of hydration to my nighttime routine could help. A sleeping mask is considered a treatment so I use it about two to three times a week; it is essentially like covering the face in an extremely rich and nourishing moisturiser and leaving it overnight to absorb into the skin. Since it is a treatment I do not use it on the same day as using other treatments such as clay masks, sheet masks or exfoliators because I find this is too much for my skin. I like to apply the Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask as the final step in my nighttime skincare routine after I apply moisturiser. I use about a penny-sized amount and apply it all over my face and neck. Sometimes I like to use the face roller to help massage it into the skin since it is a very creamy product. However, the product doesn’t feel greasy on the skin or leave any residue at all; it absorbs well and my skin immediately feels plump and nourished after applying the sleeping mask.

Overall, I am a big fan of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line. I like that it’s simple and effective with one clear goal to bring extra hydration for the skin. I also like that it works for multiple skin types and concerns i.e. acne and dehydration, making it accessible and beneficial to almost anyone. I find that it is a high quality product but doesn’t break the bank so I don’t mind repurchasing often.
