Sweet Poppy: Kid-friendly Outdoor Cafe in Bangkok Suburb Nonthaburi With Lots of Vegetarian Food Options

What I have missed most while living in isolation is going out to brunch with my family on the weekend. If you know me, then you know that hunting for amazing brunch spots is a passionate hobby of mine. Now with two kids in tow a new criteria — must be kid-friendly — is at the top of my requirements when I’m “on the hunt”.

After hearing so much about Sweet Poppy from parenting Facebook groups and acquaintances, I finally made it to Nonthaburi — a Bangkok suburb about 20 km from the city center — where Sweet Poppy is located and what started out as a morning brunch quickly turned into a full-day outing.

Here are some photos from a lovely summer Sunday spent at Sweet Poppy — I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you have kids.

The most special thing about Sweet Poppy is that it is incredibly thoughtfully-designed for families with babies and young children. Set in a lush green outdoor setting with a canopy of trees, Sweet Poppy has a playground, sand pits, swings, and a large outdoor seating area.

There is a large outdoor play area with something for babies, toddlers and young children. The large play structure pictured above has a long slide, rope bridge, and tree house suitable for children ages 3 and up. My almost 4-year old son went up, down and around countless times.

For babies and toddlers there is a sand pit and right next to it sinks to clean up when the messy fun is over. My 10-month old baby girl spent an hour in the sand with her toys.

My kids loved Sweet Poppy. There was enough to keep them entertained for hours and I really appreciated that.

Connected to the outdoor play area is a large and spacious covered seating area, which offers long benches and tables for larger groups as well as chairs and tables for smaller groups. And the best part: ceiling fans everywhere! Sitting outdoors for long periods of time in Bangkok’s humidity and heat is near impossible, so seeing all the fans and feeling the cool breeze all day made me smile (and vow to come back again).

As I said, I’m a self-proclaimed “brunch hunter” and I’m happy I found another amazing spot! The food at Sweet Poppy is both delicious and comforting at the same time. Each dish is thoughtfully flavoured and beautifully presented. Not to mention that there are many options for vegetarians like myself as well as those looking for gluten-free and dairy-free options. I definitely have my eye on a few more dishes on the menu I want to try the next time I go to Sweet Poppy.

NEW AVOCADO TOAST
avocado, edamame, peas, feta, green chili, olive oil, grilled sourdough, lime, mint, dukkah with poached egg
ROASTED CAULIFLOWER
roasted cauliflower, pumpkin, fennel, dukkah, yoghurt & mint
HOUSE-MADE REAL CHOCOLATE BROWNIE
honeycomb, vanilla ice cream

The Kids Menu has great options. My son gobbled down the SP Kid’s Golden Pancakes with caramelised banana (they offer 5 different topping options!) for breakfast and the Penne Pasta with Tomato and Parmesan for lunch without a peep. Success!

The staff is amazing and the customer service simply excellent. Like I said, brunch plans extended into a full day affair of enjoying the outdoors and relaxing as a family. We had a great time and will be going back for sure. I would recommend making a booking in advance, especially if you are a larger group. If you haven’t been to Sweet Poppy yet, what are you waiting for?
